All about WRITING
Janet Reid has a great blog about what not to do in a query letter that you are sending her, which should be read and possibly applied to most queries.
She is a literary agent with an attitude, and I find her mostly funny with the whole bad ass ness.
You have to find a literary agent before your book will even be looked at. Im not saying that Janet Reid is the agent for you, I just found her blog very helpful in explaining the basics of what you have to do to find an agent. She explains it very simply. WAIT.... YOU DID FINISH WRITING YOUR BOOK DIDN'T YOU? Because if you didn't, your skipping in line.. That comes first, WRITE, WRITE, WRITE!
ok...... now that that is cleared up, you need to find an agent. Please note: All agents want to see his or her name at the top of the page..
Dear Sir, will not cut it. So please know the agents you send to and what they specialize in before sending them the best query letter they have ever read.
Breaking down the query letter, This site is very helpful. Jeannie Ruesch takes the mysteries out of the query. She brakes them down and disects them. This site has alot of helpful tips. There is many more links for writers on this site.
The Complete Nobody's Guide To Query Letters
Alot of good information is on this one, about how to write a letter and make someone else want to read it.
Writing a story takes more then just a thought, it takes a creative link to the world you imagine.
Podcasts are definitely a great tool for writers! Some of the podcasts I have felt most helpful are:
~Pen On Fire~ The reason I chose this podcast is because the foundation of it is interviews with real authors. They discuss in detail and in length on what it takes to get published, what the steps are in finding an agent and what agents are looking for. The authors discuss the most important things they have learned since being published. Who has inspired them and what one thing they feel is the most important.
This is a great site to listen to writers talk about experiences they have had with publishing, agents and more. Great authors can be heard on this podcast with interesting and intelligent information.
GOOD LUCK!
